Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

only child

My mother was killed in a car accident in Feb of this year.

There was no will. I am not adopted. I have a step-father.

My question is this, am I intitled to any of the settlements?

There is also a farm involved.

Thank you,

Re: only child

If your mother was domociled in Missouri. you may be entitled to a portion of her estate. Her surviving husband (your stepfather) will get a portion or all, depending upon what claims are made.

If your mother lived in Missouri, you will need to check for a probate estate in that county. Yo may contact me by email, if you wnat to ask more specific questions.

If your mother did not marry your stepfather, you are entitled to share the estate with any surviving siblings. If your mother legally married your stepfather and there is no will you may be out of luck unless there is some way of establishing what her wishes were. I suggest you contact an attorney as soon as possible to determine what your rights are. I am in Des Moines.
