Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

A child services representative came to our home at 5:00 AM a few days ago saying a phone call had been made to the state hotline at 4:15 AM that morning. Everyone was asleep in our home. She arrived with two city police officers. She looked through the house and viewed our children sleeping, looked in the fridge and deep freeze which were fully stocked as always. We had called the police earlier that evening due to attempted break ins. She told us someone would arrive by 8 am that day to talk with us further. When we called the police earlier that evening they said we were "hallucinating" and searched the house for drugs and found nothing. Something was mentioned about a drug test might be scheduled when the family assessor arrived. She also said the children would be interviewed. None of these things have occured. We are unsure what to do. Are WE legally responsible to initiate further contact or they required to contact us?

Most reports of child abuse or neglect are found to be false at the initial investigation stage. In those situations, the children are not removed, and the file us closed. Based upon the facts you reported, it sounds like what happened in your case. If you should hear from them again, call an attorney immediately.

Good luck
