Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

child support

My boyfriend lives with me most of the time. He isn't working at this time due to lay offs in his industry. He owes back child support and he went to find out about it and was told by the courts in Jefferson County Missouri that I would have to start paying it and would have to sell my house to pay his back support payments, is this true? We are not married and I have my own grown children. How could I possibly be liable for this?

Re: child support

You are not responsible for his child support payments, and I sincerely doubt that the "courts" in Jefferson County or anywhere else said so. You should tell him that he needs to go get a job even if there are layoffs in "his industry" and take the responsibility of being a man who chose to have children.
