Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

child support

My friend is paying child support for his 15 year old who lives with his mother in my home. He quit paying child support for his elder son who is working full time and not going to college. My friend lost his job a year and a half ago and has gone through all his retirement money, his personal savings and has run up a large credit card bill. Is there anyway he can suspend child support payments until he gets another job. (he has been searching).

Re: child support

Your friend should have used some of that money to hire an attorney. He could file a Motion to Modify the existing child support Order based upon his involuntary unemployment. The Court might impute income to him, but there is an excellent chance that the child support amount can be reduced. Please suggest to your friend that he consult with an attorney. If he does not already have an attorny, he may call me for a free telephone consultation.
