Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

child support

My son is 17, and his mother just had the monthly amount raised (even though I paid for clothes, etc., outside of the court order which I initiated.) They say I owe back-pay, but at what piont do I stop paying? What if he drops out of school? I don't recommend this!

Re: child support

Your child support obligation runs at least until the son is eighteen, and if he enters college by October 1rst after graduating from high school and satisfies all of the other statutory requirements then your child support obligation could continue until he reaches the age of 21 or graduates from college whichever occurs first. If he marries, moves out and lives independently, or joins the military he may be considered emancipated earlier, and at that point you would want to file a Motion to Terminate the child support obligation.
