My childs father has never been around and is not on the birth certificate. A year later he is threatening to take me to court. What should I do?

You shoudl be preapred to contest paternity, if you think there is an issue there. You may also need to ask that the father pay chidl support and provide health insurance for the child. Unless you can be shown to be deficient or somehow unfit as a mother, there is littel chance that you will lose custody of the child. But, unless there is problem with the father, If he can prove paternity, he will probably get visitation granted to him. If you are worried about you or the fahter' sfitness, you shoudl consult direclty with a family law attorney in yoru area. Manyy offer a free ro low cost initial consultaiton.

I agree with the prior response that you should consult with an attorney immediately. You should get a Judgment in place as soon as possible determining any legal issues, including paternity, legal custody, physical custody and child support including health insurance coverage for the child. If you are not already represented by legal counsel and if you are located in my geographical area, I might be able to offer my services to you. Please feel free to call for a free consultation.
