Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

curious about a move

I live in Missouri and am thinking about moving within the state. How do I go about that--I have 3 kids that I have ful custody of and there mom has visits only. Can I move within the state or do I have to ask a court if I can go.

Re: curious about a move

There is a relatively new statute which specifically sets forth the requirements for you to relocate with your children. Basically, you need to provide the non-custodial parent with a letter, I believe by certified mail, notifying her of your intent to relocate and providing all of the pertinent information. She will then have a period of time within which she can file papers in court to prevent the move. I would suggest you contact an attorney personally, review the statute and obtain some legal advice specific to your circumstances. This shouldn't cost you very much at all, unless the non-custodial parent fights the relocation. Good luck!
