Custody while in hospital?

There is a lady (A) who has custody of her child (B). The father (C) gets (B)once a week and every other weekend. If (A) is in the hospital for days/weeks at a time should (C)have (B) instead of (B) staying with his great grandmother? (B) lives with his mother and great grandparents. I feel his father should have him during the time she is in the hospital.

Is there a Court Order, Judgment, or other legal document which sets forth the legal rights of the parties? If so, then that document would control. If not, there should be one, and the father may need to go to Court to get the appropriate Order in place. I do handle matters of this nature and the father may feel free to call me at the office if he is not already represented by legal counsel.
