Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

my daughter filed for divorce. the court docs. say that a summons was issued to her spouse on 3/5 with a due date set for 4/4. Is the due date for him to respond or for the papers to be delivered?

The due date is for the sheriff to state whether they have served him or not.
