Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

I am disabled and on Social Security. They paid all my back child support for my two kids and then continued to pay it up until they both turned 18 and did not continue with their education after high school. The last payment was July of 2015. Now Social Security without any notice put a garnishment on my check for back support for my son saying that it was because he went on to college after high school. He did not, instead he went on to working jobs. Social Security says that if I want the garnishment stopped I have to go to court and file paperwork. I am disabled, have a limited income and do not drive.

Is it really my responsibility to do all of this if it is Family Service's mistake? Should Family Services stop the garnishment and do the investigation that should have been done in the first place? Also why a garnishment against me? If Social Security was paying the support at the time should they not be contacting them? Should they not turn this back support into Social Security now for payment?

You can not trust child support or social security to do the right thing on their own; you must take steps to protect yourself.
