Re: After the divorce is granted

First of all, this is probably a question you should pose to your divorce lawyer. Generally speaking, however, you may have a couple of options. Since the terms of your agreement were most likely included in the Court Order (you should check to be sure), then you, in effect, have a Judgment for the amount of money your ex is supposed to pay you. You can file a garnishment on his or her bank account(s), wages, or perhaps collect against other assets he owns such as vehicles, boats, real estate, etc. Also, if he was ordered to pay you, and is able to do so, you may file a Motion for Contempt dragging him back in front of the Judge to explain why he is refusing to pay. In appropriate circumstances, the Judge might incarcerate the person in contempt until he or she performs the act the Judge Ordered.
