Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My ex-girlfriend contacted me claiming that she had given birth and that it is mine. she would not show proof when i asked her. i have no clue if there even is a child. she is not asking for child support but if there is a child and it is mine i would want to be in its life. how can i find out if there is a child and that she gave birth and if there is a child how can i find out if it is mine.

Ask your ex to meet the child. If you feel that it might be yours, then you can petition for visitation or custody.

Can you confirm the birth of this child through someone who knows your ex-girlfried? If not, you may be able to inquire at the Department of Health for a copy of any birth certificate issued. If there is a child, you need to file a Petition to Determine Paternity in court in order to have any legally enforceable rights concerning the child. In all likelihood there will also be an Order for child support.
