Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
My Ex-Wife doesn't like my girlfriend. She called her lawyer who then called me to inform me that if I let my girlfriend watch my daughter if I'm out, (I get her a week at a time), that she will ban my girlfriend from ever being around my daughter and myself again. She also said she'd take away my custody so I can't ever see her again. Is that possible? Can you ban a certain person? This person has no criminal history and is a nurse so she's a good person to be around. Certainly safe.

It would be up to your ex wife and her attorney to prove that your girlfriend is detrimental or otherwise harmful to your child. But, she cannot pick who you associate with. You might inform your ex's attorney that the threat to deny your rightful visitation can be taken as a waiver of your obligation to pay her child support, and possibly as grounds for reversing of custody. The lawyer made an improper threat, if you characterized it accurately. You may want to repotr this activity to the bar. Protect your child from all known and foreseeable harms, even if it turns out to be your girlfriend.
