Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My ex girlfriend and I had a child November 22 2007. We have been separated since the child was one year of age. Neither ex girlfriend or I have taken any legal steps to claim or persue custody rights. Both are names are on the childs birth certificate. It is very random when I get to see my daughter, depending on the mood of her mother. Their is no set scheduals to visitation. Everything will be good to go get my daughter, and at the last min she dose not show with her. Claims she changed her mind. I want to be a part, a major part of my daughters life. I do my best to help out financialy, and she turns it down. Her boyfriend calls harassing me, saying I have no financial obligations to my daughter. She has recently presented the idea of changing our daughters last name, which for now is the same as mine. She wants me to take my name off the birth cirtificate, and have no contact with our child. She also claims that the child is not mine, but someone elses. But yet refuses to take a paternity test. She has now presented papers to a child suppoet heiring. I am so frusturated to what to do, and do not have the means to a lawyer. Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

You did not indicate what your ex is seeking in her Child Support hearing. You should gather all the documents you have relative to this case and go see an attorney in your area. Many offer free or low cost initial consultation. They can explain that it will be important for you to be represented or to effectively represent yourself, depending upon what your ex is seeking. If you are not careful, you could get stuck with a large bill and little visitation.

Good luck
