Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My granddaughter had a child she is 17 and the boy is 19 he is not on birth cert and they are not married he claims he is going to sue for full custody she cannot afford a laywer because she has went back to school to get her high school deploma she lives with her parents at this time the boy has mental issues if he really files can she get help we have talked with one but he needed a 1000.00 just to start we dont have that much money can you get the papers and represent your self
