Grandparent Rights after adoption

We are fostering two boys through kinhsip foster care. We are not biologically related. The boys' mother is deceased the father's rights have been terminated. The boys had been placed with the maternal bio grandmother and step grandfather. The grandmother decided it was in the best interest to have them placed somewhere else. We are in the process to adopt them. Will she have any rights after the adoption is final?

Re: Grandparent Rights after adoption

Generally, biological grandparents will not have visitation rights after adoption. But, visitation with biological family members is one criteria DFS will use in deciding whether to agree with your request to adopt. If the boys are old enough to know their grandparents, you may want to think long and hard before deciding to cut off that relationship.

Good Luck
