In 2000, my son and his girlfriend had a child, shortly thereafter, the mother left my son and took the girl with her. Almost 1 year to the date of her birth, we were allowed to see the girl again with my son having joint legal custody, but the mother having physical custody. My son moved out of town and was not able to keep up with the parenting plan, but I (the grandmother) was keeping the girl (who is now 8) every weekend and last year had to keep her for three straight weeks because her mother was not sending her to school. Now the mother is stating several lies about my lifestyle and is denying me all visitation with my granddaughter. My granddaughter is being told that I never want to speak with her in her life again. She has her own bedroom, clothes, etc... at my house. My son has now been able to purchase a car and enjoy his visitation rights, but is being told he is not to leave her with me or she will have the custody papers changed. Is there any legal recourse for me to be able to stop this vindictive girl from keepiing my granddaughter from me? Her main issue with me is my husband has recently been diagnosed with cancer and we have not been able to provide her with money as we have in the past.
