Re: guardianship for education purposes

Missouri statutes allow a parent to sign a special power of attorney authorizing another person to care for a child for a period of time not to exceed one year. If the school will accept the power of attorney for enrollment purposes, then you would be wise to use this procedure rather than going through a guardianship. The cost of the power of atorney will be very modest compared to the cost of going through a guardianship. If you are not represented by an attorney and would like to talk with me about this, you may call me at the office for a free telephone consultation.
