Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My husband is ex-amish but his parents are still amish. We just found out that because he was born in Canada but his parents are both american born citizens that we have to get him a passport to prove that his parents are americans so that he can be a legal documented american. His parents moved back into the US in the late 80's. But his Amish parents will not let us borrow their certified birth certificates, marriage license and get a statement from one of them of their history of locations. None of the other children or my husband know any of the information required to order a certified copy of the documents. Is there anyway to get the information required legally from his parents so we can get him his passport?

If your in-laws possess a certified copy of his birth certificate, it also exists in a records office somewhere. It might be tgough, but if he keeps checking, he will locate it, if he knows his day and year of birth.

If he cannot, your husband might employ and attorney to contact his parents to see if such a document exists. Perhaps the attorney can look at the document in the parent's possession, and glean enough information to find the correct record depository to request a copy of his own.

He might employ a records search firm, to locate all his public and not so public records.

Good luck
