Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My husband ( or what I thought was my ex-husband) has admitted to committing bigamy. We were married in 1992 and it lasted 5 months. I haven't seen him since. But did reconnect with him on myspace. He lives in Kansas and I Missouri. My question is why should I have to pay for the divorce? Also. He has been on disability for years. Am I entitled to any of this? Or alimony?

If he was already married before you "married" him, you may be ble to go through a simplified divorce or annulment process. If he later got "married" whiel he was already yruo husbnd, then that marriage is null, and you follow the same criteria as any other divorcing couple,a sto who pays for the costs of the divorce.

As to the disability, you may not be entitled to a portion of his federal SSI payments. But you may have claim to portion of any privately insured disability policy. However, if you were only together for five months and have been living sperately for the last sixteen years, it is unlikely that an insurer would accpet and pay your initial claim. You might have to fight them to get it.

Good Luck
