Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Would a lawyer really say this?

My 20 year old daughter had a baby not long ago. The father has done nothing but harass her since. She tried to let him see the baby, and he did some, but spent most of his time harassing her. She finally had enough and told him to go away and grow up. (This is a man in his 30s, who should have been acting more mature all along, up to and including not making a baby with a nineteen year old girl.) Anyway, this resulted in more harassment. My daughter told him that if he wanted to stay in the baby's life that he needed to take parenting classes and start helping support the baby. She asked for child support. He came back and said that his lawyer said that her asking for child support was extortion and that his lawyer told him not to pay child support. Would a lawyer really say that? He has openly claimed the baby as his.

Re: Would a lawyer really say this?

No. The mother of the child should immediately file a Paternity suit seeking court ordered child support. The court will require the father to take a parenting class. The mother should also seek an order of limited supervised visitation to handle the problem of the father's improper behavior. I handle paternity suits.
