Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Legal age to move out of the home

My sister will be 17 in August. Once she reaches 17 can she move out of home (away from our mother) and move to my home in Texas without any legal trouble? She doesn't want to stay any longer but she also doesn't want to be arrested or convicted of running away from home. Again, she would be 17 leaving her mother's home and coming to me in Texas. Any legal issues with this?

Re: Legal age to move out of the home

In Texas, IF there are no current court orders governing her behavior or residence (juvenile court, family court, conservatorship, municipal/truancy court etc) then she is not considered a runaway at 17 years of age, and can leave home. If she chooses to do so, she should notify the local law enforcement afterwards, in order to avoid concern that she has met with foul play. (she could be taken into custody as a 'missing child' if her whereabouts are unknown -- notifying law enforcement of her whereabouts will resolve that).
