i am in need of getting legal guardianship of my nephew. mother has signed a document giving me custody that was noterized but not signed by a judge. can this letter be filled in the court without all the cost of having a lawyer

The court will not likeluy ever grant gurdainship to someon based only upon a note from the mother. If you can prepare proper petion to have agarudinship establsihed, you might be allowed to do it pro Se (without counsel) but a guardian ad litem (attorney for the child) will be appointed. You may be required to paysome or all of their fees.

If the "letter" from Mom is sufficient, it might allow you to enroll the child in a school in your district, sign him up for sports/scouts, and possibly take him to the doctor. If you want to do more than that, you may have to get the full guardainship, which is often better done with experienced counsel.
