Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
Am I liable for and in contempt of court ?
Divorce was final in 2007, my ex got the house and her vehicle and I got my vehicle. In the final papers it states that she must get the house out of my name and I must get my vehicle out of her name. I could not afford to keep my vehicle so I voluntarily surrenderd it back to the company. The company went after her for payment of remaining balance after they sold it at auction. She in turn paid it. Now she is sueing me for the money she paid and for me being in contempt. Am I liable to her for the money she paid ?

Under the facts you described, it appears that you are liable to your ex wife for the money she had to pay out on the vehicle.
Good luck
Before I would offer any response to your question, I would need to read the actual Judgment of Dissolution and the exact language regarding the vehicle. I would also need to interview you to ascertain all of the factual information I would need to provide you with competent legal advice. If your ex-spouse has already taken you back to Court on a Motion for Contempt, and if you have been served with the Show Cause Order requiring you to appear in Court, then I would strongly suggest that yhou hire an attorney to represent you. Whether you hire an attorney to represent you or not, do not fail to appear on your court date or else a Capias (body attachment or warrant) will be issued and you may be taken into custody. If that happens you would need to post bond and that money may be used to pay your wife.
