Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My niece left the state amd left me with her baby and does not want him nor does the father, they both want to sign their rights away..I have talked with a local attorney and he wants 1700.00 to do this for me and then another 2500.00 for me to adopt him. Is there a way for me to get this done cheaper? I live in Missouri.

There is a statute under which you might obtain a Judgment granting you custody of the child. There are also other legal processes such as guardianship, adoption, power of attorney, and so forth. I'm not sure exactly what you spoke with local counsel about, but it may be that you could obtain the result that you want less expensively.
