Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
My question is, Can I get in trouble from something that happened 3 years ago?
More details: I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. I am currently recieveing welfare. I live in Missouri and her father lives in Georgia. I recently thought about working to find him and try to get child support. But my problem is, He is 17 and i am 21. His birthday is October 29th 1993 and mine is October 8th 1989. My daughter was born Sept 17th 2008. We were in love the time my daughter was made and everything was consensual and we were dating for awhile after that. We no longer talk but I recently recieved some new information of his whereabouts. And I am really just wondering if things can be brought back on me for something that happened 3 years ago.

While it is unlikely that you will be formally charged with child molestation, it may be possible. You did not indicate where the sexual acts occurred. I cannot speak to Georgia law, but in Missouri, you may still be charge criminally. If you are, it may caus eyou to have to register as sex offender for the rest of your life. You may also be subject to a civil suit from this young man's parents, or by him within the next 2 1/2 years.
You understand that if he is orderd to pay support, it will likely go to the state, to repay your benefits. Since you are on benefits, you may also be more vulnerable to this young man (or his parents) getting custody of the child. At the very least, there would probably be a Visitation Order entered.
If you wish to puruse this course, you should consult direclty with a family law attorney in your area soon. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation.
