Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

I have been raising my 3 year old grandson for most of his life minus a few months that his parents thought they could do it themselves and now both of them are will to sign permanent custody over to me. Is there a website that has permanent custody form that I could fill out and print myself? Would I be able to file these forms with the courts without an attorney?

No, there is no such form and therefore nothing you can file with or without an attorney. You either need to adopt the child or get guardianship. Both have to be done throught the courts.

I disagree with the above response in part. It is true that there is no form that you can fill out

and file with the Court. There is much more to this than simply filling in the blanks on some form. However, there may be another option for you besides an adoption or a guardianship. There is a statute which allows a Court to grant custody of a child to a third party in cases where the parents are unable or unwilling to care for the child. I have sucessfully obtained a transfer of custody to a grandparent under that statute. Please feel free to contact me if you are not already represented by an attorney.
