Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri
I was served with documents from my daughters father wanted to get joint custody and joint legal of our 2 year old daughter. He has not provided any monetary support and had not seen her in 6 months. What do I need to do to fight this and does he have a chance of receiving this?

You need to hire an experienced attorney to represent you. The law presumes that it is in the best interest of the child to have significant and meaningful time with each parent, and so it is quite possible that the father will be able to obtain a Court Order granting joint legal custody and substantial parenting time. Of course, he will also be Ordered to pay child support. With good representation you might be able to prevail upon the specific parenting plan terms, and if the evidence was overwhelming you might be able to defeat the granting of joint legal custody. The court will be guided by "the best interests of the child".
