There is a statute which provides for a parent to sign a power of attorney under the situation you describe which will cover most needs. However, different school districts have different requirements regarding the enrollment of children, so you need to find out exactly what your school district requires. In most cases you will not need to go to the trouble and expense of setting up a legal guardianship. I have assisted many other people with similar situations. YOu shoudl feel free to call me for a free telephone consultation.
