Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

which state do i need to file in?

I am needing to hire a lawyer to go back to court to get the maintenance amount changed as I am getting ready to retire. I got transferred to Michigan from Missouri. Orginally, I was ordered to pay 2300.00 monthly to ex wife in the state of Missouri. Once I retire, I will not be able to afford this amount.Decree states she is not intitled to any of my retirement, so does that mean, I stop paying her altogether or must I get a lawyer to prove I no longer can pay? Thank you, Mr. John Graham

From the facts you have given us, I believe that you will need to file a Motion to Modify the existing Court Order. In most cases it is definitely best to hire an attorney to do so on your behalf. If the existing Court Order is in the Eastern part of the state of Missouri then I might be able to help you. You may feel free to contact me at my office.
