The state does not recognize it as astraghtforward tort like it did a century ago. However, one can seek redress for expenses and other losses suffered in anticipation of a marriege resoanbly based upon a promise to marry. This usually is the expense of an unreturned engagement ring or for housing expenses incurred in preparing for matrimonial cohabitation.
