Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

My stepdaughter ran away and moved in with a friend of her's. Missouri law does not allow us to do anything since she is 17. Her mother pays us child support. Is she obligated to pay support even though the daughter is now living with a friend? Also, if the daughter moves back in with her mother without our concent, do we owe her child support or does she have to get a court document to change that? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Generally, your ex will have to get the custody and support Order amended to stop making support payments. That is especially true if she wants you to pay her. Since your daughter has moved out, your ex may be able to have your daughter emancipated by the court.

The father has a legal duty to inform the mother of he child's emancipation. The mother can then file a Motion to Terminate child support. The existing Court Order for child custody would remain in effect if the child is not legally emacipated until Modified.
