From the time you talk to a lawyer and agree to retain them, which includes paying the retainer of $1500 up front, how long should it take for the
divorce to be filed, on record with case.net, and the respondent be served?

Ther are no absolutes on timing. But, the Petition shoudl be usually be field within six months. Unless there are problems finding the respondnet spouse, service shoudl occur within 45 days of the Petition being filed. Many cases proceed mucyh quicker then this, but there are variables to every case that make them take more or less time.
