Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Transfer of Vehicl

In my divorce I recieved ownership of my car. I know what to transfer ownership and responsibility for payments to my ex wife who wants the car. What paper work do I need to fill out to protect myself if she decides not to pay for the car?

Re: Transfer of Vehicl

Unless the lender Releases you from your obligation, there may be no way to absolutely protect you from liability for your wife's non payment in the future. Your divorce decree does not change your liability to your creditors. If you transfer title ownership and possession of the car, you will want to either pay off the notes, or get your wife to execute an indemnity agreement. An indemnity agreement is a promise your wife that she will pay the loan on time, and will reiburse you for any money that is collected form you and for your out-of-pocket expenses if they come after you for payment. An attorney in your area should be able to draft one specifically for your situation. There are general form books in office supply stores, but they don't always apply to all specific situations.

Good Luck
