Re: uncintested devorce

Technically, a person has the legal right to represent himself or herself in Court including divorce proceedings. However, I have been handling divorces for people for over thirty years and I strongly believe that it is a hugh mistake for anyone to go through a divorce without an attorney. Even an attorney going through a diorce should have an attorney. The potential harm that can, and often does result from non-lawyers getting their own divorce will cost much more to fix, if it can be fixed at all, by an attorney at some point down the line. There are some important legal concepts that most non-lawyers do not know anything about that have major impact on the consequences resulting from the divorce proceedings. Some issues are relatively simple and straight forward, but some are fairly complex and difficult to deal with. Also, although there are forms readily available, the court clerks can not give you legal advice, and many people just do not know the legal process: that is what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. I would advise you to consult with an attorney before deciding whether to proceed on your own. Many of us will offer a free in office consultation. If you still want to do it yourself after consulting with an attorney, at least you will have the benefit of what you learn during the consultation. No matter what you decide todo, I wish you the best of luck.
