Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri
Civil Judgement
I signed a lease in 2004 with my ex-boyfriend. Things got violent and I moved out three months later. I applied for a apartment a few days ago and was denied because of a judgement on my credit report. I had no idea it was there. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Civil Judgement
You must investigate the judgment. If you were served with papers after the 2004 event and failed to show up in court, then the judgment is likely valid. It will go away after 10 years. If you were not served (but, for example, your boyfriend was), then you may be able to have the court reform the judgment since if you were not served you are not bound.
Consult an attorney immediately to see if this can be cleared up for you.
