Re: civil suit

If you are thinking of giving assets to someone else to hold for you (e.g., giving your brother your car & $15,000) until the plaintiff goes away and forgets about you, this is called a "fraudulent conveyance" or a transfer to defraud creditors. Courts go back and will allow a transfer that occurred up to a year prior to a judgment, but a transfer in the weeks or months before a judgment is usually suspect and can often be attacked in court.
