Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri
contract for deed
I paid off a trailer in Dec. 2008. The seller still owed the bank money. The seller refused to pay the bank what he owed and I had to pay it to get the title. Do I have any recourse?

Yes. The seller should pay all of your costs for that, if youd already paid to the seller all you were supposed to under the contract.

Yes. You can sue to enforce the contract for deed, provide proof that you paid off the bank, and secure a judgment against the owner. You should do that quickly, and unless the amount was less than $3000, you'll need to hire an attorney to get it done right.
If the contract for deed provides for attorney's fees (you should check) that might make it easier for an attorney to help you without putting out a lot of cash up front.
Good luck
