Both my parents have been diagnosed with alzheimers. I ended up quiting my job for close to 3 years to help take care of my parents. My husband whom workes for entertainers had been able to keep up with the bills. Two years ago we had done our taxes and were to recieve some money back. The IRS had sent in half of what we were owed My husband had put in an unemployment check in also. The bank put in the wrong amount in our account, we thought it was the rest of our IRS return. Needless to say we had a bunch of checks bounce.Our bank has fixed the problem. I proceeded to call and let people know what had happened. All the companys whom were in involved where very understanding except one. They demanded ther money. We got it to them as quickly as possible. We were unable to catch up on our bills since then. I started working again, It will be 2 years in March that I have been with the same company. This company that was unwilling to work with us has since called me at work at least 4 times. I told them 3 times that are company policy is no personal phone calls. The fourth time they talked to the GM and she told them the same, then she told me that the lady tried to make me look bad. They have called my mother-in-law, brothers ect.

Is this company a creditor (like MasterCard or Visa) or is it a collection agency? While the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act does not apply to creditors, it does apply to collectors and collection agencies. If it is a collector, go to the FTC web site (www.ftc.gov) and look for information about debt collection practices. You will learn what your rights are and how to assert them. If this is a creditor, you should consider hiring at attorney to write a letter to stop the harassment at work.
