Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

I loaned a friend 5K with a repayment agreement of 12 monthly payments. After 18 months and several reminders from me, he still has not attempted to repay. The only evidence that I have is the cancelled check and the testimony of my spouse. Can I sue for the money?
