Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

publishing court cases in local newspaper

I live in a small rural town and anything that goes through the court is published in our local newspaper. I know that a town 25 mi. from me that doesn't do this. Is there a way to keep this out of the paper and if so what steps do I need to take. Everybody and his dog knows when someone gets a divorce, is sued by a credit card company, has failed to pay child support, the list goes on and on. PLEASE tell me there is a solution for this. Countless people are being ridiculed as a result. Thank you.

Re: publishing court cases in local newspaper

Court documents are public records. The paper has access to them, and can report anything in there it wants to.

That's the purpose behind the First Amendment.
