Legal Question in Health Care Law in Missouri

I contracted MRSA staph infection in the hospital after a hysterectomy. I spent an additional eight days in the hospital and now have a wound pump and IV antibiotics. Home Health Care will be on site for approximately three weeks. Am I still responsible for all of the medical bills associated with the second hospital visit and Home Health Care?

Hi. In order to recover your expenses for your additional time in the hospital, additional medications, home health care expenses, and pain and suffering, it is necessary to demonstrate that there was some act of medical negligence that resulted in you obtaining a staph infection. Some adverse consequences, or unintended results, of a surgical procedure are actually considered normal "risks" of the procedure. Generally, you have to be able to show that there was actually a negligent or careless act, on the part of a physician, nurse, or other health care administer. Have you done any research into the potential causes of the specific type of staph infection you have? The type of infection could be rather important. If you have a less common variety, you may have a stronger chance of indicating that some negligent or careless act caused it. A few additional details would be needed. What are the potential causes of a MRSA infection? Also, what other complications do you have that are attributable to the staph infection? This is highly relevant to make a determination of whether it is worthwhile to seek some type of settlement with the health care provider. If you have any longer term, or especially permanent effects, it may be worth looking into further. I am a Missouri personal injury attorney. I can be reached via e-mail at [email protected]. Thanks.
