Legal Question in Insurance Law in Missouri

No Car Insurance Because I'm Not a Licensed Driver

My husband died last month. I want to keep our car and hire people to take me places in it. (I am handicapped and it is big enough to accomodate my walker). But our car insurace says I can't insure my car because I don't have a driver's license. I can't license my car without insurance. There is no one in state that I would be willing to put on the car title (it is still in my husband's name.) Can the state of Missouri deny me vehicle insurance because I am unlicensed and don't drive?

Re: No Car Insurance Because I'm Not a Licensed Driver

Your broker/agent should be able to have the vehicle

insured - with you as owner and someone else as the

authorized driver - without any trouble. You have

an insurable interest in the vehicle, and the fact

you do not drive means that only the "authorized driver"

needs to have liability insurance. Of course you will

need the Missouri minimum liability coverage for owners

but that would be encompassed within the limits you

buy for your "authorized driver."

Good luck,
