Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Missouri
I received a petition from my sons grandmother that she is seeking guardianship of my 6 yr old son. Her son, my sons father, is worthless and cannot care for his own son. She thinks I am not a suitable mother to care for him either, which is completely false. What are my chances of losing my son if I go to court without an attorney? I dont see a reason to spend money I cant afford to defend myself on this. I work, I have a car, and a roof over my head. Why would they give her Guardianship?
1 Answer from Attorneys
In order to obtain the guardianship, she will need to show tha tthe child is in danger. There is nto suffcieint space here for you to explain the facts that she alleges put your Son in danger. You shoudl at least meet with a probate or family law attorney in your area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Take all the doucments with you, and let them ask you follow-up question. Then you can determine if you want to hire counsel to represent you at the hearing.
Good luck
