Legal Question in Employment Law in Missouri

defamation of character and slander

I was terminated from my job because somebody told my supervisor that I was talking about blowing up the building. This was a false and groundless allegation. I never made any such statement, I told my supervisor that the allegations were false. I feel that my character has been defamed due to an outright lie that has branded me as a ''terrorist''. I am not an Arab or any other third world descendant. I'm a normal church going American who just happens to be a deacon at my church. Since I was fired because of this ''lie'', do I have a case for defamation of character/slander?

Re: defamation of character and slander

Under the facts you described, you may have a case against the liar and your employer. You should consult an attoreny that you trust soon. Tell them the rest of the story, and they will be able to better evaluate your situation. You should not delay, and keep thorough notes of the conversations and documents surrounding your termination.

Good luck
