non-compete contract
what has to happen in order for a non-compete contract to be valid? I was let go due to company down sizeing and have a letter of recomendation from the company am I legaly obligated to adhere to the contract?

The answer to your question relies heavily upon the language of the agreement between the employer and the employee. But generally, an agreement must be for a reasonable amount of time, and for a reasonable geographic area. What is reasonable is based upon; the type of work to be performed, the type of confidential information the former employee acquired while still with the former employe, and the clarity of the agreement.
