An employee making $7 an hour works 8 days straight in order to cover schedule change. Is there any law stating overtime and if so what is the law?

$7.00 is below the minimum wage he has a claim for at least the minimum wage for all hours worked. Overtime is based on hours over 8 in a day and 40 in a week and after the 8th hour on a 6th consecutive day and on the 7th consecutive day.

Besides issues with minimum wage in CA, each employee is entitle to two - paid 10-minute rest breaks and 30 minute unpaid lunch break. If the employee is working through lunch break for the benefit of the employer and does not take lunch, he is entitled to an additional wages for day.
