You can't. If you want to live in your current residence, you must continue to pay the rent. A bankruptcy filing--not just retaining a lawyer, but actually filing a bankruptcy petition--will remove the garnishment. I do not know if you are qualified to file bankruptcy or not. I don't know if you are in a position to pay off the debt. I don't know if you're in a position to take on a second, part-time job to bring in extra income. I don't know if getting a roommate to help with expenses is an option. I don't know how much the judgment is for, and how long it will be at the current rate before it is paid off. I don't know if your landlord would or could accept a lesser amount of rent until that time.
