Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

My landlord has not returned my security deposit and its been over 30 days, i was under a rental asst program but some things were not in order and it forced me to move. Ive been out of the property since the 15 of june. the landlord claims they were holding the deposit until the rental asst program paid them for the month of may. I called to speak to somone in the program and i was informed that payment was already made as of the first of august for mays rent payment and the landlord still had not contacted me. During the conversation between me and the rental program rep she imformed me that any money dispute is between them(sec 8 rental program) and the landlord and has nothing to do with me. They have now found reason to keep the whole amount(900) of the deposit which should've been returned in july. What can i do?

You may need to sue the landlrod for the amount of the deposit plus statutory damages. In order to do this, I suggest you meet direclty with a civil practice attorney in your area. Many offer a free or low cost initial consultation. Take all your documents to them and be available for follow-up questions. The advice I have given is very generalized, based upon your general descrition of the facts. You need advice specific to th facts of your case. may hire them to help you draft yrou pleadings, or to fully represent you. or go it alone. but, get advcie specific to your case before you decide how to handle this unrefunded deposit.
