i need to know that once i send a certified letter to my tenant with notice of default with a date of either he sends rent or leaves premises, what is the next step to evict him??? When do I need a lawyer. His lease was up Feb.30th of 2006. He paid for March with no new contract. He hasn't paid since. Today is May 5th and we had to use his deposit for April. He hasn't returned any calls that we have made. We have left notes on his door.Can we change locks? We need to get a new renter by June. Please help

Missouri is a no self-help eviction state. You cannot change the locks, etc. to keep tenant out of the unit.
You will have to file a rent and possession action against tenant to evict him. So, now is the time to consult an attorney.
